Elinor Leary
Attorney
Elinor Leary is an advocate for victims who have suffered catastrophic injuries, including life-altering orthopedic injuries, nerve damage, and other trauma. She represents people who have suffered damages because of insurance bad faith, wrongful death, automobile accidents, and professional negligence.
Ms. Leary is former Alameda County Public Defender with significant courtroom experience. She has experience with nearly every aspect of courtroom representation, including jury trials and preliminary examinations as well as law and motion practice. Before joining the Public Defender’s Office, Ms. Leary clerked for a prominent criminal appellate attorney and handled death penalty appeals. Before that, she acted as the Latin American Liaison for a San Francisco-based environmental law firm and lived in Mexico City. Ms. Leary speaks Spanish fluently.
Ms. Leary graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003. Ms. Leary was an Editor of the University of San Francisco Law Review. She was the law school’s Advocate of the Year from 2001-2002 and won the coveted Edward J. McFetridge Award for Excellence in Advocacy in 2002. In addition to these honors, she was also an active member of the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Women’s Law Association. She joined the University of San Francisco’s renowned Criminal Law Clinic in 2003 and was entrusted with a significant criminal caseload involving issues ranging from restitution to juvenile law. Ms. Leary graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. with degrees in Law and Society and Literature.
Ms. Leary is admitted to practice before California state courts. She is a member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Queen’s Bench Bar Association, the University of San Francisco Inns of Court, and is a frequent Moot Court Judge involving Appellate Practice and Trial Practice at the University of San Francisco Law School.
Ms. Leary enjoys time spent with her family, out-of-doors, and traveling.
