Elinor Leary
Attorney
Elinor Leary is a trial attorney and a passionate advocate for victims who have suffered catastrophic injuries. She represents plaintiffs in a broad range of civil litigation, from premises and products liability to professional negligence. Ms. Leary has tried cases to verdict as well as reached large settlements in numerous other cases.
Ms. Leary is a former Public Defender with experience in every aspect of courtroom representation. While in law school, Ms. Leary clerked for a prominent appellate attorney and handled felony and death penalty cases. Before that, she acted as the Latin American Liaison for a San Francisco-based law firm and lived in Mexico City. Ms. Leary speaks Spanish fluently.
Ms. Leary devotes a significant portion of her practice to public interest work. Ms. Leary is a part-time clinical professor for the University of San Francisco School of Law’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice Clinic. She also founded and directs the firm’s Pro Bono Program. Her pro bono work was recognized in 2008 with nominations for the State Bar of California President’s Pro Bono Service Award and Jack Berman Award of Achievement.
Ms. Leary graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003. She was an Editor of the Law Review. Ms. Leary was also the law school’s Advocate of the Year and won the coveted Edward J. McFetridge Award for Excellence in Advocacy. She was also a member of the Public Interest Law Foundation and the Women’s Law Association. Ms. Leary received undergraduate degrees in Law and Society and Literature from American University in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Leary is admitted to practice before California state courts and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. She is a member of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, Consumer Attorneys of California, American Bar Association, Queen’s Bench Bar Association and University of San Francisco Inns of Court.
Ms. Leary enjoys time spent with family and friends, preferably outdoors.
