The Veen Firms's James Butler Elected President of San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association
San Francisco, January 30, 2006 – James G. Butler, Jr., a senior trial attorney with The Veen Firm, P.C., has been inducted as president of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (SFTLA.) The SFTLA is the oldest trial lawyer group in the nation.
"Among the many key initiatives for 2006, we are excited to continue to grow our Women's Caucus and strengthen and broaden our Community Involvement Committee, which has successfully built a playground for homeless children, cooked meals for homeless families, and works to improve community understanding of how trial lawyers help level the playing field for the working person against corporate and insurance interests," said Butler. "SFTLA serves an important function in furthering the education of plaintiffs' attorneys, as well as expanding the networking of members and local legislators."
Butler has been a member of the SFTLA since 1988 and has served on the Board of Directors since 1997. In addition to serving as president, he currently sits on the Diversity Committee, the Board of Directors Selection Committee, the Community Involvement Committee, and the Health Insurance Committee.
Butler represents clients in product liability, premises liability, catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death matters. A trial team leader, he specializes in the simultaneous litigation of benefit systems.
Butler serves on the Board of Governors of the California Applicants Attorneys Association and serves as Third Party Issues Committee Chair. He is a member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Consumer Attorneys of California and National Association of Social Security Claims Representatives. Fluent in Spanish, Butler is the author of Injured Worker Survival Guide. He received his J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law (1987) and his B.A. in rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley (1982).
For more than 50 years SFTLA has served the needs of the plaintiff's bar with the goal of providing continuing legal education to attorneys—ensuring that the oppressed and injured have skilled lawyers and access to justice. On the Net: www.sftla.org
