San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association Honors William Veen With Lifetime Achievement Award

The Veen Firm’s Founder Recognized for Helping the Catastrophically Injured

San Francisco, April 24, 2008 William L. Veen founder of The Veen Firm, was honored by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (SFTLA) with its Lifetime Achievement Award last night. One of the oldest trial lawyers' associations in the country, the SFTLA recognized Veen at its annual awards gala for Veen's nearly four decades of dedicated service as a trial attorney.

“We are pleased to honor Bill with this award. He has long been a tireless advocate for consumers' rights. Bill's dedication, outstanding trial record, leadership, and continued involvement in SFTLA make him a natural choice for this honor,” said current SFTLA president Linda Ross, of the Law Offices of Linda Ross.

“I am honored to have earned this recognition from the SFTLA, an organization that shares my values and support for the rights of the workers and consumers who are unable to fight for themselves due to the negligence of others. While this is a lifetime achievement award, I plan to continue focusing on complex trials, mediations, and the development of other attorneys. I hope to continue to participate in passing on the knowledge and expertise that our firm has acquired in prosecuting claims for victims of catastrophic events,” said Veen.

Veen founded The Veen Firm in 1975 and grew the firm from a one-man operation to more than 40 members today. During this time, he has represented thousands of injured workers and consumers in recovering damages arising from industrial accidents, construction accidents, elevator accidents, motorcycle accidents, defective products, professional liability and auto and truck accidents.

The majority of Veen's clients are workers with injuries of such severity that their earning capacities in their chosen occupations have been significantly reduced or eliminated. More than a hundred of his cases have resulted in verdicts or settlements in multi-million dollar settlements. Veen served as the president of the SFTLA in 1994 and was honored by the organization as the 2003 Trial Lawyer of the Year. In addition, he is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Consumer Attorneys of California, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, California Applicants Attorneys Association, State Bar of California and State Bar of Hawaii. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (1968) and his B.A. from Michigan State University (1965).

For more than 50 years SFTLA has served the needs of the plaintiff's bar with the goal of providing continuing legal education to attorneys—ensuring that the oppressed and injured have skilled lawyers and access to justice. On the Net: www.sftla.org.
