Jane & John Doe v. Black Ladder Co.

Resolution Date:
October 2005
Practice Areas:
Head and Spinal Cord Injuries, Products Liability
Synopsis:
On March 30, 2002, Jane Doe, alone in her home, decided to open the attic. While unfolding the attic ladder, the ladder struck Jane Doe in the head. Emergency room personnel treated her for a laceration to her head above her left eye and knee pain. Over the next few weeks, as her head injuries subsided, Jane Doe experienced increasing back pain, nerve pain in her left leg, and weakness. She was diagnosed with a herniated disc. Her doctor performed the surgery on her spine on April 24, 2002. Later that year, MRIs determined that her disc had re-herniated, and she had a second surgery. The firm contended that the ladder's defective design led to Mrs. Doe's injuries. The matter settled before trial.
