Drunk driver charged after 4 people killed and 8 hurt

Wrecks involving vehicles and pedestrians often result in terrible consequences. When a truck goes off a bridge and falls into a crowd, however, the resulting impact can be catastrophic. In a recent tragic accident, an apparently drunk driver in California drove through a guardrail along a bridge and plunged into a crowd below.

The accident happened on Saturday afternoon, October 15. A 25-year-old active duty member of the U.S. Navy was driving east on the Sand Diego-Coronado Bridge when his truck fell 60 feet off the freeway into a crowd gathered for a festival at Chicano Park. The truck landed on a booth set up next to a stage where a band was performing. Four people were killed instantly on impact.

Seven other people were suffered minor to moderate injuries, and one suffered major trauma. The driver also suffered major injuries, and all involved were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver has been charged by police with drunk driving and causing deaths and injuries.

Surviving loved ones and families facing similar situations in California may be able to rightfully pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against a drunk driver, seeking reimbursement for any monetary and non-monetary damages sustained in a tragic accident. Many unexpected expenses can arise such as medical bills, loss of income, funeral expenses and other financial obligations. If the driver is found to be negligent, this information could be used to establish liability in a California civil court. Most people in these situations seek the counsel of an experienced attorney who is experienced in wrongful death and personal injury litigation.
