Police in California investigate fatal bike crash

People in California choose to use a bicycle as a form of transportation for a variety of different reasons. In addition to personal health benefits, using bicycles can save money and protect the environment. Unfortunately, bicyclists often face harm from the negligent behavior of others on the roadway. For example, police are currently investigating a bike crash that resulted in a fatality.

Police say that the 31-year-old victim was riding his bicycle on a California road just before 8:30 p.m. Unfortunately, the back of his bike was allegedly struck by a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old male. The cyclist was reportedly thrown from his bike due to the force of the collision. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle is said to have remained at the scene. While police claim that they do not believe that the accident was caused by alcohol, they are still investigating. They are asking anyone who might have noticed the vehicle being driven recklessly in the time preceding the accident to contact them.

Because bicyclists and pedestrians could be on the roadway, motorists must remain vigilant at all times. Failure to do so can can easily result in a tragedy. Unfortunately, this bike crash has likely left a family reeling from the news of their loved one’s unexpected death. Many people in California who have lost a loved one due to another’s negligence choose to seek justice in a civil court. If their claims can be proved, they could receive a financial award to help cope with the expenses stemming from their loss.
