California cyclist killed by suspected negligent driver

filed in Bike Accidents

At times, justice may seem to move slowly for the loved ones of fatal accident victims. For one family, they likely feel that justice was finally served after a fatal hit-and-run accident took the life of their loved one. A purported negligent driver recently pleaded guilty for his part in a collision that resulted in the death of a California man.

The accident occurred on June 17, 2014, just before 7 p.m. The defendant was driving along the North Coast Highway when he inexplicably swerved and hit a 55-year-old man who was riding a bicycle in the bike lane. The driver then continued up the road without stopping.

Witnesses to the event called 911 and followed the driver, who eventually stopped in the parking lot of an elementary school along the highway. The accident caused the laceration of the bicyclist‘s liver and ultimately resulted in his death. Reports from the investigation indicate that the 21-year-old driver was on his phone prior to the accident. However, the driver indicated that he was unable to locate his phone when police questioned him about the event.

Those in California victimized by an accident that was caused by a negligent driver typically seek the advice of an attorney. There are many unexpected expenses that can occur as a result of an accident, such as medical bills and lost wages. Additionally, attorneys who are well versed in wrongful death litigation will be in the best position to discuss various available legal options available in order for their clients to seek justice after the death of a loved one.
