Keep Calm and Resist: Anthony Label Authors President’s Message in SFTLA’s Trial Lawyer Magazine

Newly elected President of the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association (SFTLA) and Trial Team Leader Anthony Label authored the President’s Message in Trial Lawyer magazine, discussing new legislation under the current administration, including the Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act of 2017.

The Fairness in Class Action Litigation Act is “a bill that is anything but fair,” writes Label. “It would absolutely gut class actions with a series of deceptively labeled procedural changes.” The Act would require proving that each class member suffered the same type of injury in order to certify a class, forbid any class representative who was a previous client of the lawyer and prohibit payment of attorneys’ fees until after all class members have been paid.

“So to answer the question, what can we do?” concludes Label. “The answer is, what we have always done [as an organization] for nearly seven decades. We will keep calm, and we will resist.”
